A Tapestry of India Represented By Isha Ambani In Met Gala 2026

Isha Ambani’s Met Gala look was more than couture; it was a tribute to India’s vast textile heritage. Wearing a custom Manish Malhotra x Swadesh creation, she reimagined the classic bandage dress through an Indian lens, celebrating the body’s natural form while embedding it with cultural depth.

The ensemble featured 26 distinct borders, each representing a different region of India, in line with the theme of “Costume Art.” From zari work of Uttar Pradesh and Parsi gara embroidery to Maheshwari weaves, kantha, Kanjeevaram silk, Paithani, and Banarasi brocade, the garment brought together techniques from across the country into one seamless narrative.

Crafted over 450 hours by artisans at Manish Malhotra World and Swadesh, the piece stood as a living tapestry—where tradition, craftsmanship, and modern design came together effortlessly on a global stage.
