However, venues and licensing agencies often take a more cautious approach due to ongoing legal disputes and copyright enforcement actions. This has led many luxury hotels and destination wedding venues to mandate music licensing compliance before allowing DJs or live performances. Discussions across the wedding industry reveal that costs can range from a few thousand rupees to several lakhs depending on guest count, venue scale, and music catalogue usage.

Another major development is the launch of “Sangeet Dwar,” a unified music licensing platform introduced by IPRS, PPL, Novex, and RMPL. The portal aims to simplify music licensing for weddings, events, corporates, and hospitality venues through a single-window system.

Check if the wedding qualifies for exemption under current copyright provisions.
