Modest strands script grand designs: Shivarama Bhandary or Shiva as he is fondly referred to has evolved from humble beginnings to establish himself as one of the citys leading styling specialists, known especially for his innovative ideas. Having lost his father at the tender age of four, Shiva turned his focus to the one trade his family was renowned for. The Bhandary clan, his lineage, had in its ranks, many a professional hairdresser, revered for their commitment and artistry. With an intention of carving his personal identity, Shiva shifted his base to Mumbai in 1979 and took up a job at Star Salon, Bhandup. His passion won the respect and patronage of his clients and also the acknowledgment of his superiors who soon recognised his natural flair. Commitment ensures a cut above the rest: A desire to explore newer challenges and a constant aspiration to enhance his skill-sets has been a deep-rooted philosophy for Shiva. An opportunity to hone his passion in Qatar in 1984 proved to be career-defining. Here, he not only came to be recognised for his penchant for hair styling, but also for his sheer artistry in conjuring innovative hair designs. Sports fanatics from Brazil, Korea and Sudan, with a taste for psychedelic hair-cuts composed of innumerable company logos, players and games, fed his hunger for experimentation. Having met with more success than he had anticipated, Shiva decided to return to India to share his styling philosophy across other budding talents. Beautiful partnerships inspire charm: Success tastes sweeter when there's someone special by your side to savour it. Shiva holds in high regard, his mother, who has been a pillar of strength and who has always inspired him to follow his heart. Another bastion of his success was his wife Harinakshi, who stood by him through thick and thin and extended her support in all of Shivas endeavours. Harinakshi was a well-respected beauty specialist in her own right and was hugely instrumental in the inception of Ladies Salon wing at Shivas. While their beautiful relationship was cut short by Harinakshis tragic demise in 2005, Shiva continues to feel her presence in his life, and the memories they shared together inspire him to conquer uncharted territories with greater gusto. ... ...Less
