An esteemed couturier and a critically acclaimed fashion & costume designer, Anju Modi has continually drawn inspiration from the rich textile heritage and design legacy spread over the diverse geographies of India.

Her journey through the country and her work towards the revival of India’s textile traditions has been the cornerstone of her design sensibilities since the inception of her eponymous label in 1990.

A strong believer of “learning on the job”, the designer started the label with no formal training in fashion design but through her experiences and extensive travels in & around the country. She has over time built a strong design foundation through her research in the techniques and nuances of textile & design, not as a mere observer but by entrenching herself in the process by staying with the craftspeople and weavers for a more wholesome, enriching experience.

With a philosophy that believes in the development of the traditional craft and craftspeople, every collection by the revered designer has been steeped in research. Fuelling her passion for the art was her proclivity for it, honed since her childhood days as an admirer of the ingenious Raja Ravi Varma.

Her noteworthy collections, which have earned the designer both commercial success and critical acclaim, have been showcased at platforms around and outside the country. Internationally, the designer has been a part of the esteemed Heyers Fashion Festival 2006, Paris, organized by the Chambre Syndicale (organizers of the Paris Fashion Week), Miami Fashion Week 2006, and India Calling at the Hollywood Bowl 2009, Los Angeles. ... ...Less
